I get an error saying something about a certain algorithm (IALGO=8) being no longer supported but rather a different algorithm (IALGO = 38) is now implemented in VASP (I'm using version 4.6.
Then it says, "I refuse to continue with this sick job...BYE!!!"

simply READ the output : it tells you to set IALGO to 38 instead of 8 in INCAR. This will work.
